Two Major Structural Types of Heat-Storage Refractory Bricks
1. Porous Checker Bricks (Standard for Industrial Furnaces) Bricks feature continuous square or circular channels and are stacked to form a heat storage chamber; airflow passes through the holes for heat exchange. They include interlocking tongue-and-groove features to ensure airtight stacking. Aperture sizes: 20/30/40 mm; a higher number of holes increases heat exchange surface area but also raises flow resistance. Applications: Blast furnace hot blast stoves, glass melting furnaces, heat treatment furnaces.
2. Honeycomb Ceramic Heat Storage Media (Specialized for RTO Waste Gas Incineration) Features ultra-thin-walled honeycomb micropores (square or hexagonal); offers extremely high specific surface area, rapid heat exchange, and compact volume. Materials include cordierite, mullite, and silicon carbide.
3. Solid High-Density Thermal Storage Bricks (Electric Thermal Storage Heating Equipment) Dense, non-porous bricks with extremely high volumetric heat capacity. They are stacked within an insulated chamber and contain built-in electric heating elements, designed primarily for long-duration heat storage. Key Performance Indicators for Heat-Storage Refractory Bricks Specific heat capacity: ≥0.95 kJ/(kg*K); higher values indicate superior heat storage capacity. Bulk density: 2.4-2.8 g/cm³; denser bricks offer greater heat storage capacity. Thermal conductivity: 1.8-5 W/(m*K); ensures rapid heat absorption and release. Thermal shock resistance: No cracking after water quenching from 1100°C; suitable for frequent flow reversals. Compressive strength: ≥85 MPa; resistant to breakage under heavy stacking loads. Chemical stability: Resistant to corrosion from SO2, alkali metal vapors, and slag.

Heat storage bricks are specialized refractory ceramic bricks characterized by high specific heat capacity, high-temperature resistance, and excellent thermal conductivity. They operate by storing sensible heat: absorbing and retaining heat at high temperatures, and rapidly releasing it during low-temperature phases or reverse airflow. This enables thermal energy recovery, peak-shaving and valley-filling, and waste heat utilization.

Two Main Operating Modes for Heat-Storage Refractory Bricks: Industrial Waste Heat Recovery (RTO / Hot Blast Stoves): High-temperature flue gas passes through the brick structure, depositing heat; cold air flows in the opposite direction, is preheated, and is then fed into the furnace. Heat recovery efficiency reaches 90%-95%, with automatic flow-direction switching cycles occurring every few tens of seconds. Off-Peak Electricity Solid-State Thermal Storage (Heating / Steam Generation)
We manufacture magnesia-based regenerative refractory checker bricks. These high-temperature heat storage bricks are widely used inside the regenerator chamber of glass melting furnaces for heat recovery and air preheating.
The brick features good heat storage capacity and strong resistance against alkali vapor erosion under long high-temperature running conditions. We can make standard checker shapes or custom sizes according to regenerator drawing requirements. Bulk orders for glass furnace projects are welcome.
